We added concrete covered hydronic in floor heat to an existing concrete slab. This was a poorly built/insulated addition that was decades old. We felt this was the most effective way to make this space warm and cozy. The process involved using Beko-Tec Modular Screed Panels from Schluter Systems, applying a 1.5" thick layer of Anchorage Sand & Gravel mixed 3/8 Self Consolidating Concrete over the panels, and inlaying hydronic O2 barrier rated pex tubing. A circulation pump and thermostatically controlled mixer valve are added to regulate the temperature from the existing boiler. The customer chose to cover the heated floor with carpet, and the team worked with a carpet installer to find a compatible carpet pad for in-floor heat from Cozy Carpets in Eagle River. McKinley Pumpers and High End Concrete collaborated to pump the concrete over a distance of 200ft and apply a final level finish.
